Ingrid Srinath to take over helm at CIVICUS

“Since 1998 Kumi has guided CIVICUS through a period of exemplary growth.  From a handful of staff to a large and committed team around the world, Kumi has fostered a movement of CIVICUS partners and supporters globally.” said Anabel Cruz, CIVICUS Board Chair.

With the arrival of Ingrid Srinath the CIVICUS Board is convinced that they have found a leader with the experience to ensure the continued growth of CIVICUS. “Ingrid brings fresh passion, creativity and commitment to CIVICUS.  She will undoubtedly rise to the challenges CIVICUS faces and harness opportunities to defend and promote civil society at a time of great change and risk.” said Kumi Naidoo.

Announcing her delight at the appointment, Ingrid Srinath stated,

“I was attracted to this post because of my profound belief in the role civil society plays instigating change in the unequal world we inhabit. The space civil society has created in the areas of human rights and civil society legitimacy, transparency and accountability is significant but can be even greater. I look forward to increasing the reach of civil society and I know that in CIVICUS I will be surrounded by people who can help make this happen.”

Ingrid comes to CIVICUS following 9 years at CRY including 4 years as its Chief Executive. At CRY Ingrid successfully re-engineered resource mobilisation to ensure robust and sustainable revenue growth and led the organisation’s transformation from a grant-making foundation to a rights-based advocacy player. Prior to CRY Ingrid worked extensively within the private sector, as a manager and vice president for a number of corporations based in India. She holds a BA from ElphinstoneCollege in Mumbai and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management from Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.

A key role of Ingrid will be facilitating and fostering strategic alliances with like-minded entities and individuals to support the mission of CIVICUS as well as encouraging staff and volunteers to collaborate with other organisations in order to champion issues critical to the goals of civil society. As Secretary General of CIVICUS she will develop Board participation to enhance visibility and generate the resources necessary for CIVICUS and its future growth. Securing a sound funding base and raising the public profile of CIVICUS’ work in the future is key to this strategy.
